June Update

The First Shot of SECTION ZERO in their uniforms!

The mysterious man in the background is MR. LYST.  What does he have to do with SECTION ZERO? That is an excellent question!

As you can see, we are still moving forward. Tom stalled for a while, and he asked me to pass along this message:

The past number of months has been slow going on SECTION ZERO. Far too slow.

That's entirely on me. A few months back, I began opening up my schedule to other commitments in what I thought was a slow, measured and cautious 'return to normal'. I figured I was ready to juggle the additional load. I was wrong. I spread myself too thin, too quickly, and the casualty was SECTION ZERO 1959.

Going forward, I have a far emptier calendar, and have resolved to concentrate more fully on getting SZ59 back on track... dedicating the time and energy it needs. The goal is 3 pages a week. I hope to exceed that, but this seems reasonable.

There's much to do, and a lot I have to make up for. It's time I got to work.

In anticipation of Tom producing pages again, I will put the finishing touches on the script for Chapter 3 this week, and focus on the Chapter 4— the last chapter— next week.

"St. Jerry" Ordway is ready to pounce on Tom's pencils the minute they show up. (Or as quickly as he can, depending on his schedule. But he's the most reliable of all of us!)

Thank you, as always, for your patience and understanding. I have a good feeling about the next few months. This project is picking up speed— which isn't hard to do when you're starting at almost, well… zero!— and we're going to finish string with a book that makes everyone happy!

(Late) April Update
over 4 years ago – Sat, Apr 23, 2022 at 11:40:49 PM

Well, we had to get rid of one of our dogs— and you can think that means whatever you want to think it means, but we told our kids he was going to a Rescue Center— and that's why this Update is so late.

That said, I'm still working away at the Script for the remainder of the book. May not have it quite done by the end of this month, but I'll be close.

TOM is still working on a big DC job, but he did send me 2 more pages; Here's a non-spoiler sample:

He assures me a third is almost done, and that he's layed out the rest of Part 2. So pages should show up fairly quickly… once that damn DC job is out of the way!

JERRY continues to produce amazing work. See for yourself:

Gotta say: this project is going to look so much better because Jerry's involved!

That's where we stand right now. Slow but steady. Once Tom picks up the pace, so will the rest of the creative team.

More soon!

(Late) March Update
over 4 years ago – Tue, Mar 22, 2022 at 09:53:58 PM

Sorry this is so late, but after my trip back east for my mom's funeral, we had some huge decisions to make regarding our son.  Hopefully things will be better for everyone going forward.

I've been inking some of the book lately— hopping around on a few pages, as is my very bad habit to do— but here's an image I can show without spoiling anything:

That's ULTIMATE ALTERNATE REALITY Backer EARL CAMPBELL as a member of SECTION ZERO!

Since I've been hopscotching around, I don't have any finished ink pages to add to the count. And after exchanging a few comments with some Backers, I've decided to focus on finishing the writing first, and get that crossed off the list. My goal is to finish the script by the end of April.

Tom was offered a Special Project from DC— one he couldn't turn down— so I haven't seen anything new from him. I believe the project is a one-shot. He will be returning to SECTION ZERO 1959 as soon as it wraps.

More news next month…

February Update
over 4 years ago – Fri, Feb 18, 2022 at 11:54:05 PM

Sorry this one's so late. Everyone in our house got COVID in January— all vaccinated, all mild cases— but there was a lot of quarantining and kids home from school, so not much of anything got done all month. And then my mother died. I got back from the funeral yesterday.

Tom, however, did turn in 3 more pages of pencils. Here's one of them:

All 3 are already in Jerry Ordway's hands for him to do his inking magic.

Now that my life is returning to normal(ish), I'll work on finishing the script and getting Tom to hand in pages a little more quickly.

I'm skipping the Progress Report this time, simply because I'm too tired. It'll be back next month.

January Update
over 4 years ago – Thu, Jan 06, 2022 at 08:45:54 PM

Very quick this time:

Tom has pages to pencil and Jerry has pages to ink, but the Holidays slowed them down and they haven't sent me their latest work yet.

I've been working on Part 3 of the story (on SECTION ZERO Mondays) which I will have in Tom's hands later this month.

At the same time, we are in increasing crisis with our son. It is depressing, demoralizing, time-consuming, and at times it seems like there is no way out. This is impacting all my work, and probably will for the foreseeable future.

But I do continue to work, and will finish this project.
